The anti-corruption agency has termed foreign trips Members of County Assemby (MCA) have been making as breeding grounds for corruption.
Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Director of Preventive Services Vincent Okong’o consequently warned the ward reps against such trips unless they are of direct benefit to their counties and country.
He said most of the corruption cases they have been receiving from counties are related to the many ‘useless’ foreign trips MCAs have been making.
“Let county assemblies ensure the trips are important and needful to bring development before an MCA flies out,” said Mr Okong’o who spoke Nyeri on Monday.
He added: “The trips are only good if what is learned from those countries is translated into development locally. However, they are only being used as way of collecting allowances.”
During the meeting, Mr Okong’o launched what is referred to as a Corruption Risk Assessment System that will help in identifying loopholes for corruption and how to fight the vice in Nyeri.
He challenged county assemblies to take lead roles in the war against corruption.
Nyeri Speaker David Mugo promised the assembly will implement all measures EACC designs in the war against graft.
